FAQs

What’s the difference between faux wood and a composite wood blind?
FAUX WOOD in the window treatment industry is a simulation or copy of real wood that is usually made out of PVC. PVC is a strong vinyl that is commonly used for water pipes in plumbing applications. COMPOSITE means mixture and in blinds this means a wood and vinyl mixture. This is better because its lighter weight puts less stress on cords and won’t bow or warp like PVC. These features are great benefits for not much of an additional cost.

What do the terms ‘inside mount’ and ‘outside mount’ mean?
An INSIDE MOUNT is your ideal mounting preference on most homes. This means inside the opening where the window is framed. This is commonly sheet rocked, or can be cased with wood or other materials.
An OUTSIDE MOUNT means on the face of the wall above the window or doorway inside your home. This application is used primarily for sliding glass doors or windows whose depth doesn’t allow for proper bracket mounting requirements.

I have arched windows in my home. What type of window coverings are available for these?
More products are being made every day for arched windows. Currently there are more options if your window is a true arch or a half circle. You can find out what you have by measuring width and height; if the width is exactly twice the height you have a true arch. Eyebrow or narrow arches and extended or notched arches are slightly more difficult to find products to treat them and will require a template. Hunter Douglas is a leader in innovation and makes a cellular fabric blind, a fixed arch (that does not move) as well as an operable one, wood shutter arches, vinyl shutter arches and composite shutter arches, a wood 2” fixed slat blind as well as the beautiful Silhouette. We can help you decide what your needs are and how to fulfill them.

About how long does it take to get my window treatments after they have been ordered?
The blinds we sell are custom made to fit your windows down to the nearest 1/8th of an inch. Most blinds take about one and a half weeks to come in, but some products like shutters can take as long as three weeks. Some arches can take as long as four weeks. However, on average, your new window fashions will be in your home in about two weeks.

What kind of warranty do my new blinds have?
Some brands have a 5-Year Warranty on manufacturer's defects. (Defects refer to the way the product was made, not damage done while in your home, such as pet damage). Some companies have a limited lifetime warranty. For information on specific warranties, we can help you get a written copy. Any power rise or power tilt blinds have a 5-Year Warranty on the electronic components.

What is my alternative to using vertical blinds on my sliding glass door?
There are many types of blinds that you may use on your sliding glass doors. Most blinds can be split into a two-in-one headrail so that your may access one side of the door at a time. This method allows you the freedom to choose a fabric or other horizontal application for your door. Shutters are a great solution to sliding glass doors. There are many options ranging from bypass sliding doors and bi-fold doors that may suit your style and functionality.
